muCommander doesn't start

Postby TobiX » Thu Jan 08, 2004 9:16 pm

Hi

I was about to check this new Orthodox File Manager (because I need one for MacOSX and couldn't find any) but it doesn't even start!

I downloaded the 0.6 sit file, extracted it and double-clicked the application... nothing happens. Better yet, you can see its icon in the dock for a fraction of a second and then it disappears. I tried copying it into the Applications folder and launching it form there, but nothing changes.

Is there something wrong with my setup? (Mac OS X 10.2.8, all Apple updates intalled including Java ones, no other JVM installed)

What can I try?

Hi Tobix,

Interesting to say the least, thanks for reporting it. 0.6 has been tested both under Jaguar (also 10.2.8) and Panther.

Could you please open the Console app (Applications -> Utilities -> Console) and copy/paste any message that appears during muCommander (failed) startup ?

And if anyone else got the same problem, I'm interested!

Thanks a lot,
Maxence

Sure. Only a single line:

${date} ${host} WindowServer[468]: ERROR! execle(${path}/mucommander.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub) returned, err=22

^^^ obvious details hidden with ${stuff}

If there's anything else I can do, feel free to ask. I'm pretty confident with UNIX stuff, so if you need a redirect, a ptrace, whatever... just ask.
I'm just not as skilled in MacOSX and/or Java programming or else I'd figure out by myself what to do next!

Thanks a lot! Some else (Dac) has reported a similar problem, with a different trace though.

I have updated the .app package, with Panther dev tools. Could you please download it and let me know if it works any better ?

If it does, I will update current 0.6 version.

Thanks,

This is not a problem of MuCommander !

Its a prob of stuffit which messes up the rights-management with archives that contain an OSX app-file

make sure to install the latest version of stuffit or open it in the the stuffit deluxe prog window and not by right mousebutton/unstuff.....

After I launch it I get the program window but before I can take control
of it a blank window appears with simply a "Quit" button in the lower
rightmost corner and i can't do anything else than acknowledge and
quit :( , MuCommander 0.5 who had same requirements works.

I have MacOsX 10.1.5 and i'm not a wizard :?

Thanks for your attention

Hi Lanch,
Thanks a lot for reporting the problem. I don't have any way to test muCommander under 10.1, but based on the error log you sent I should be able to issue a fix.

I'll reply here as soon as I have something for you. If you give me your email address, I can send you an email too.

Cheers,
Maxence

PS: I will spare you the 'you should upgrade to Panther, it's good' :)

Could you please make version 5.0 available?
maybe something to do with the new panther libs you used?

Or if it is stuffit... could you make a dmg?

Anyway i love this little app.

greets.

MuCommander works again with MacOsX Puma (10.1.x)

Postby Lanch » Tue Jun 22, 2004 1:34 pm

Ehr, MuCommander 0.6 wasn't working under 10.1 but i finally managed
to get it up and running, i've had to go thru all updates until 10.1.5 and
then update the Java machine to 1.3.1 by using the Preferences's
built-in Software Update menu. Now it works fine!
