A nice feature request would be to choose external editor in Preferences.

You can sort of do that already. Say that .txt files are mapped to Vim. Then just press enter on any .txt file and Vim will popup.

The viewer and editor are meant as quick tools for quick jobs. We decided to trust the user and its system to know what's the best tool to edit a file, and let them decide, for those cases when more than a quick modification is necessary :)
