How to... ?

Hi!

Is there a way to open a console in the current folder, probably with a shortcut? I really miss this feature.

The other things muCommander really lacks in my opinion:
- background file operations (on Mac OS X it is especially a demanding need)
- file search (you may say: use grep. That's OK for me temporarily, but the "open console in current dir" feature would be necessary for that, too. And on the other hand it would be nice to have the results listed in a panel like in TotalCommander, Krusader, etc.)
Usability/productivity would be rehabilitated with these features... until then muCommander is a tool for opening movies and copying things in my passtime, unfortunately not suitable for serious work.

Another idea: it would be nice to be able to fetch the output of a console program into a temporary panel. Say you have a file list as an output from a locate, find, ls, custom script, etc. and it could be piped into muCommander. I guess it is no science fiction and lots and lots of my colleagues would definitely use that. It would certainly need some features which are nonexistent up to now, like the temporary panel entity itself and probably a dedicated thread for listening to such incoming data. Imagine though how many possibilities would open with such a feature with relatively small amount of work.

I am a professional Java programmer for about 8 years now and a cross-platform programmer overall for 15 years, so please tell me if I can help with any of the above.

Hey balazstth,

Sorry about, well, ignoring your post for so long. Maxence (lead developer) and I are in the final stages of starting our own business, and this is taking an ungodly amount of time. So much so that we're hard-pressed finding any to work on muCommander or manage the forums at the moment. This is a temporary situation and once things have settled down on the professional side, we should be able to get back to working on muCommander and giving community members like yourself the feedback and care they deserve.

I really am sorry, I should have at least made the time to acknowledge your post and explain why I wouldn't be able to give it the consideration it deserves right at the moment. I understand you're upset - I would be, had I taken the time to offer my help and detail the ways I could lend a hand to a project and then be ignored. I can only hope that we've not lost a potential valuable asset for the project because I kept postponing the 5 minutes it would take to answer and explain the situation to you.
