Drive menu and floppy drive on windows

Postby kane77 » Mon May 04, 2009 12:39 pm

Hi, first of all, I love muCommander! I have been using it for a while on linux and now that I used it on Windows too I noticed a problem. When I click on the menu with selection of drives it takes couple of seconds before it is displayed and it tries to access floppy drive (floppy drive blinks and makes funny noise :) ) the same happens sometimes when moving between folders.. Is there a way how to disable floppy drive in muCommander (I know I can disable floppy drive either in windows or to remove it physically and the issue will go away, but it may cause that people would perceive muCommander as slow and unresponsive..).

Hey there,

Thanks for the feedback, and bringing this issue to our attention.
To be honest, I thought we'd dealt with it ages ago. Which version of muCommander are you using? Would you mind trying to grab the latest nightly build (it's probably more stable than the latest "stable" release anyway :) and checking whether it still happens?

If it does, I guess we have to fix this issue *again*.

Thanks!

Hello there,

I've just created a new ticket reporting your problem. It would be greatly appreciated if you could take the time to read it and add anything you think I've missed.

Also, could you let me know which version of Windows and Java you're using?
The simplest way for you to send us all the information we need is to paste the information found at the bottom of the About box. It should look something like this:
Code: Select all

Version information

muCommander
Version: 0.8.4
Build date: 2009/05/18

Java VM
Name: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
Version: 1.5.0_16-133
Vendor: Apple Inc.

OS
Name: Mac OS X
Version: 10.5.7
Architecture: i386

Locale
Language: en
Country: US
Encoding: UTF-8

Thanks for your help!

The floppy drive also appears to be queried when changing from one directory to another

i have similar problem. each change of local folders takes a long time.

there is a simple way to avoid this bug. just disable device "floppy disk drive" in device manager. After that mucommander works fine

True, that's a useful workaround. It'd still be nicer if muCommander played nice with floppies and you didn't have to disable them though :)

A fix has been committed for this issue: the floppy drive shouldn't be actived when the drive buttons are activated anymore. On the whole, the drive button should feel much more responsive under Windows.

Would you mind downloading the latest nightly build and letting me know if it works for you?

Thanks!
