System tray icon doesn't work on Linux

Postby banhof » Tue Nov 06, 2007 8:17 pm

Hello, I have noticed this bug: When I close muCommander window while having system tray feature turned on, there's nothing way to bring that window back. If I click on that icon by right button, some menu popups, but there's no way to re-open "trayed" window or even exit. I have to kill it from console, to disappear that tray icon. It's not serious bug on Linux, because of virtual desktops conception, but i think it should be fixed.

Hi Banhof,
Just to make sure I understand the bug correctly: the system tray icon stays after you close the last muCommander window, and when you right-click the tray icon the popup menu appears but nothing happens when you click on any of its menu items. Is that it ?
How about when you 'Quit' muCommander, does the tray icon stay ?

Could you please copy and paste here the 'Version information' that is located at the bottom of the About dialog? That will give additional information about your system and allow me to reproduce the bug.

Thanks for reporting this,
Maxence

A potential fix for the tray icon not disappearing has been added to the nightly builds. Note that I haven't been able to reproduce the problem with muCommander 0.8.1, both under Ubuntu and kUbuntu, so the fix is a bit of a shot in the dark.

If you get this message, could you please download the latest nightly build and report if the problem is gone ?

Thanks,
Maxence

Now it's OK. There was a problem, that muCommander was running (icon on tray was visible) but there was not any chance to force window to appear. Now it's OK. It's a pitty, that my patch can't be applied. I'm sorry to say that, but "Run command" feature is maybe enought for Mac users, but for Linux users not (internat terminal emulator is quite poor for any serious work). Thank you for your great project.
