Upload failure

Postby Schneck » Fri May 04, 2007 1:50 pm

Hi there,

first let me thank you for this great tool - really an important argument for me to buy a mac :)

what i use very often is the ftp-feature, but sometimes i get an error uploading files.

example:
i have a local file, let it be /users/username/mod/test.php, and i want to upload it to ftp://host.org/mod/test.php, i get the message

"Dieser Ordner existiert nicht oder ist nicht verfügbar: <remote filename>"
in english: "This folder does not exist or is not available".
the file copy does not start.

do you have any suggestion?

thanks,
stefan

Hey Stefan,
Thanks for your feedback. A have a few questions for you to help me pinpoint the problem :

- Are you experiencing this problem on a recent nightly build or on 0.8 beta3 ? If you're using 0.8 beta3, can you download the current nightly build and see if the problem is still there ? (there have been a few FTP fixes recently)

- Are uploads always failing with the FTP server you're using, or only under certain circumstances ? In particular, does it have something to do with filenames with non-ASCII characters ?

- Can you provide us with information about the FTP server (program and version) ?
Or even better, can you PM me an access to a test account on the FTP server ? I understand if you can't of course.

Thanks!

hi maxence,

unfortunately, i can't create an ftp-account for testing issues, it's a customer's server.

the ftp server is a ProFTPD 1.2.10. the site i access is a standalone server managing several sites.
----
10 minutes later: i think i figured out what happens:

the user's root folder is placed somewhere below the web-directory. when i try to upload a file, mucommander tries to upload it into the web-directory, which is 2 levels deeper in the filesystem. i only noticed that because an upload failed with the message "file exists". it does exist, but not in that directory. with another computer and krusader, i removed the file and uploaded again with mucommander. and yes, it worked, but the file appeared in that spooky directory deeper in the filesystem. there is an issues with path mapping i think.

hope it helps,
stefan
