Ftp connections

Postby Le Sag » Wed Oct 20, 2004 3:52 pm

Hi everybody. I seek the method to deconect from a server ftp
without having to quit the application. So, is there a way to save the adresses of the servers already visited ?
Cheers, Le Sag.

Hi there,

There is no way to disconnect from an FTP server for now (the connection just times out after a while), but it may be a good idea to have one I've added this to my todo list.

This will most likely be in the next major release (0.8) as this is a much needed feature.

Will you put it in the final 0.8?

Hi Junaw,

Yes this feature (universal bookmarks, works with any type of location) will be in 0.8 final. As a matter of fact it is already in 0.8 beta1 which is available for download as I speak.

And what about the disconnect option?

We're thinking about adding that one, but it's not actually as easy as it sounds. Let's not get technical, but it would require rewriting a lot of the underlying file management.

It'll probably make its way into muCommander eventually, but no guarantee when that's going to happen.

Cheers,

For the record : 0.8 beta3 (and current nightly builds) has a whole new and improved way of managing connections, with proper connection pooling, automatic (timeout) and manual disconnection (via the 'Show active connections' dialog).

Active connections are now shared and reused throughout the application ; additional connections are created if multiple concurrent accesses are required.
